I remember quite a lot. So I can divide my life into periods when I didn\’t like politics but wasn\’t allowed to criticize it, periods when politics began to look promising and some of us were even explicitly excited about it, and periods when I was mostly fed up, disgusted, or explicitly angry about it.Even as I began to lose my sanity, I noticed politicians saying and doing divergent things. They spoke enthusiastically about how well the people and the country were doing, but looking around, it was clear to my untrained eye that things were not so great. On the contrary. But criticism was not tolerated at the time. Because what ruled was that there was only one party that could deal with the discontent.
By the end of the 1980s there was hope that things would turn around. And like many others, I began to appreciate the fact that there was a plurality and that we could therefore choose the people we thought would be best. And we do so with the expectation that those elected will hold us accountable for the results they produce during their terms in office.It just didn\’t last very long.
Before long, thanks to the possibility of pluralistic opinions, dirt began to surface that we humans would rather not see than experience. And we have often seen politicians get away with it by doing the wrong thing. Most often, they disappear from politics for a while, only to reappear as candidates for other parties or in well-paid private sector positions.And the aversion to politics continues to this day. Because to this day, politics has not been in the service of the nation. Believe me, I am not criticizing the politicians in power because of my poor performance. On the contrary, I hate them. If I could, I would abolish politics altogether.
