Surely the filmmakers would not be angry with me for borrowing the title of their film without permission. But I did not. The opening scene of a massacre in a firefight, like the one at Verdun, jumped out at me. Why is that mentioned here? Well, there are struggles to make a living here too, but it\’s not usually about smuggling booze. Now that doesn\’t make sense. But during Prohibition, the era in which the above story takes place, it was an everyday occurrence. Imagine a similar shootout here.
In this country, fighting goes the other way. If two chickens are in the same garbage dump, you have to take down the other one. First, it is a more subtle way. One understands and leaves the political arena. But the other does not understand, or does not want to understand. He knows that here he is going to a beautiful wasteland and a lot of money. So he clings to it like a louse in a fur coat. So comes a reminder of a more rude nature, and if the person in question is sufficiently well-prepared, he will soon give a convincing answer. And then there is a fight, just like in the movies. It doesn\’t turn into a gunfight, but it\’s more intense and ruthless.
So obviously we need men with hard elbows and strong nerves. They are even given immunity. So are they really free to do whatever they want? Essentially, yes. This is how the common man fits into Superman, almost becomes God. He sees the common man as a necessary evil. But he knows that he needs the common man for votes. But even that may not be entirely true. And it can make all the difference in the world if delivered to the right place at the right time.
The excuse that this is not true, that everyone is honest, does not work here. Yes, ostensibly everyone is a model of honesty, people and their actions. But in reality, we know ourselves. Occasionally, something leaks onto the TV news. Again, we should not believe everything they say. Here, too, sometimes they tell some pretty strong lies, or at least distort the facts quite a bit.
